Mérida, Yucatán — City workers have begin to hang more than 1,500 Christmas decorations, a huge undertaking that will last until Nov. 29.
The Directorate of Municipal Utilities has unpacked and touched up its cache of wintry pines, snowmen, Santa Claus figures, sleds and nativity scenes.
Col. Emiliano Zapata Sur will see, for the first time, a Christmas pine decorated with more than 2,500 multicolor LED lights. It is one of four faux trees. The other three will at the remate of the Paseo de Montejo, in Fracc. Del Parque and in Parque de Juan Pablo II. Except for the 12-meter pine at Del Parque, all are 20 meters high.
The city has invested over 2 million pesos in new decorations for Calle 60, the Plaza Grande and the Paseo de Montejo alone.
And more than 12,000 meters of flexible hose of different colored lights were purchased for installation to outline of the trees along the Paseo de Montejo.
The city is also trimming the Municipal Palace, the Olimpo Cultural Center, Parque de La Mejorada, Calle 60 between 47 and 57, 47th street between 60 and Paseo de Montejo and Calle 59, between 72 and 56.
Also parques La Ermita, La Mejorada, de la Madre, Santa Lucía, Col. Alemán y Tabentha de Altabrisa; the Glorieta at Col. México, eLas Américas and the overpass at Col. Gonzalo Guerrero.
