Beer Fest and 25 brewers return to Hacienda Chenkú

Hacienda Chinkú

For the third consecutive year, Hacienda Chenkú will host the most important craft beer show in the southeast.

Beer Fest, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, promotes beer culture, “not the drunkenness,” said organizer Fernando de la Cámara.

At the event, attendees can learn about the process of making, distributing and selling their favorite craft beers. More than 250 brands and types of beers, from local to national and international, will be there for the sipping.

This year, 25 brewers will participate; 10 Yucatecan, 12 national and three international. The brews will be accompanied with food from the Bierhaus, Querreke and Maíz de lo Alto, all sponsors of the event.

De la Cámara explained that the interest in the festival has been increasing. Organizers hope to sell more than 1,000 liters of beer.

“The experience when drinking beer is the most important,” added Ovidio Suarez, president of the Yucatán Association of Craft Beer, and owner of the Cuerno de Toro brand.

Attendees will be able to meet beer masters firsthand.

“We started in 2017 with eight partners and more and more are joining the association with brands such as Alux, Ceiba, Patito and Retoño, among others. We already have 25 different labels in the association and for this event there will be many new recipes but everything will be a surprise,” he added.

Live music includes local bands like Colin Gow, Black Hounda of Soul and La Juana. There will also be tastings, talks and courses.

The Beer Fest starts 6 p.m. Friday. Map here. On Saturday and Sunday activities will begin at 2 p.m. The Fest closes at midnight Friday and Saturday and at 7 p.m. Sunday. Three-day access is 150 pesos; children under 12 have free entry. More information on their Facebook page.
