Beauty blogger Alin Pescina will represent Mexico in an international makeup challenge after beating five other national finalists in Mexico City on Saturday.

Her transformation into a Marilyn Monroe-type persona qualified her to compete in Los Angeles for the international final of the Face Awards.

For the past six years, NYX Professional Makeup has challenged the beauty vlogging community, and this year they dangle a $50,000 grand prize and title of Beauty Vlogger of the Year.

The community of online make-up artistry is a rapidly growing industry. More than 45,000 YouTube channels specialize in beauty and fashion and these videos receive more than 700 million hits a month.

Pescina is one of six contestants who will be flown to Los Angeles in August to compete in a live show. Judges will assess the finalists based on creativity, educational content, artistry and personality. The five runner-ups will each receive $10,000.

For Mexico’s final, staged in Mexico City, the theme was “Alter-Ego.” The six finalists rose above 500 contestants.

Pescina’s Marilyn Monroe was paired with a fanciful figure featuring an explosion of exotic designs and dots. The vlogger describes herself as a non-professional makeup artist who likes to paint herself.

Her most recent post shows how to create a pink-and-black smoky eye, inspired by drag queen Alyssa Edwards.
