A massive police mobilization stretching from Progreso to Merida snared all four suspects two hours after a violent jewelry store heist, police said.

The armed group struck Joyería Mayra in Progreso at Calle 78, between 29 and 31, at 7:20 p.m. Thursday. They beat the owner of the store, grabbed his merchandise from display cases and fled to the capital in an Audi A3, police said.

State police initiated a search operation on the Mérida-Progreso highway and set up a checkpoint at the entrance to Francisco de Montejo.

The subjects eluded those filters and entered Merida, abandoning their automobile on Avenida Jacinto Canek.

The suspects were arrested in the vicinity of O’Horán Hospital and the Hotel Boulevard Infante, both on Avenida Itzaes.

Police credited video monitoring systems, aggressive field operations and information from at least one helpful 911 call in the capture.

The police mobilization generated astonishment and confusion among passers-by and hospital visitors, wrote Reporteros Hoy.
