Architect Ponce leads local nominees

The XXIV CEMEX Building Award judges have revealed their favored architectural projects of the year, and Yucatán is at the top of the list of nominees.

Architect Henry Ponce‘s B + H 45, on Calle 45 in Santa Ana, Mérida, was nominated in the single-family category. The house emerged on a narrow lot on an unassuming street. Its modern, clean facade hints at the airy, contemporary interior that makes inventive use of living space.

An education building for the Biotechnology Institute, and a park space in Polygon 108 — both futuristic in theme — were also nominated in their respective categories.

Nominees stand out for their constructive, conceptual, technical and aesthetic designs, according to CEMEX. The list is dominated by progressive and modern designs. “Through this event, CEMEX promotes a culture of continuous innovation in construction and recognizes the most talented people in this industry,” the organization proclaims. “CEMEX fosters a culture of continuous innovation in construction and encourages best practices in building generating better spaces for social interaction.”
