Cancun, Q. Roo — Yet another addition, this one called Terminal 5, has been announced at the Cancun International Airport.
Citing a rising number of passengers coming through the facility, the Airport Group of the Southeast (ASUR) has started preparations for the addition of a new terminal, according to Riviera Maya News.
Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto originally mentioned the idea of adding a fifth terminal when the Cancun airport celebrated the opening of Terminal 4. Already the country’s second-most busy airport with over 25 million passengers annually, the new construction would help the airport handle an additional nine million passengers per year.
Construction is set to begin later this year or early in 2019.
