Yucatan remains stalled at the orange traffic light, state health authorities said Thursday.
Doctors also announced 74 new coronavirus infections and nine deaths in the past 24 hours.
That brings to 21,863 the number of cases — including 195 from outside the country or state — since the pandemic reached Yucatan. Recoveries have improved, now averaging 84%.
Of the new cases, 48 were in Mérida, eight in Tizimín and Valladolid; three in Umán; two in Kanasín, and one in Chankom, Progreso, Sucilá, Ticul and Tinum.
Hospitalizations totaled 138 patients, 10 fewer than a week ago. That total has declined steadily since July when as many as 600 beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients at one time. Only 17.6% of all ICU beds in Yucatan were occupied.
While the rate of contagion is stable, 48.7% of people in Yucatan who are tested for coronavirus turn up positive. While alarmingly high, the percentage is two points lower than two weeks ago.
The orange alert will remain another two weeks until medical authorities reevaluate hospitalization and infection trends.
