Interjet flights from Mexico City to Mérida and four other destinations will be under a code-share arrangement with American Airlines, a big convenience to the latter airline’s passengers flying in from the United States.
The agreement, which apparently faces no obstacles to U.S. regulatory approval, will create a seamless connection between flights. The other destinations under the plan are Huatulco, Villahermosa, Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Oaxaca.
American’s frequent-flyer club members will earn miles on the entire trip from the U.S. to their final destination.
Both carriers indicate they plan to expand the code-share agreement to include 29 cities in Mexico.
American has flown to Mexico for more than 72 years and operates up to 115 daily flights to 20 destinations in the country from Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia and Phoenix.
