Mérida, Yucatán — Animal Protection agents from the Municipal Police Department have seized a gray horse that had been stranded in near the old train station in the Centro.

The horse, which is approximately 5 years old, had been moored without food or water for more than four hours on Calle 55 between 48 and 46.

Police were alerted Wednesday night by a concerned citizen.

The horse was confiscated and taken aboard a trailer to the Municipal Animal Control Center.

This is not the first time that city officials have taken steps to rescue a horse in the Centro. Last summer, a workhorse with visible wounds and signs of malnutrition was seized and treated until he regained his health.

A new owner then took possession of the horse, named Paluso, and housed him at the Polo Club.

Municipal Police urge citizens to report cases of animal abuse reported by calling 999 942-0060.
