Merida, Yucatan — The most famous of The Yucatan Quartet’s repertoire will delight the public at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cultural Center of the South.
The free concert, “Greatest hits for a string quartet,” received support from the Municipal Fund for Performing Arts and Music 2018.
The project includes six concerts with Christopher Collins Lee on violin and Timothy Myall on viola as well as Nikolay Dimitrov and Nadezda Golubeva on cello.
Samuel Rafinesque, group manager and Chistopher Collins, announced the program to Diario de Yucatan.
The Yucatan Quartet, or El Cuarteto Yucatán, began seven years ago with the members of the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra.
For Thursday’s concert, which coincides with el Día de la Madre, they will play Mozart’s Serenade No. 13 for strings; Hungarian Dance by Schubert; and Quartet in D Major, known as “Kismet” by Borodin, among others.
Rafinesque said that this concert is innovative because they added visual material to accompany the music.
The audience will enjoy the beauty of nature and music in parallel, he says, listening to the works of great composers and seeing images of Yucatan’s natural beauty and its people, through the courtesy of The Nature Conservancy.
Rafinesque indicates that the presentation is a challenge and will be done with just some compositions.
He adds that the idea of the project is to reach all kinds of audiences, and they like to start at the Cultural Center of the South, where they expect everyone to enjoy the concert and get closer to the music.
The free concerts will continue in September.
