The 32nd edition of the Merida Marathon will be tentatively held on Jan. 9, 2021, announced city organizers who hope that coronavirus contingencies will allow for a real, live and in-person road race.
This announcement during a presentation centered on this Saturday’s “Corre por Merida,” or “Run for Merida.” And like so many other things right now, it’s been remade into a virtual event.
Participants will wait for the starting guns while at home, or in the location of their choice, and connecting by computer.
After logging in, athletes start their activities at 5 a.m., walking 3 kilometers with a pet on a leash, going another 7 kilometers on a run and then 3 kilometers of walking.
Participants’ progress will be measured with an app. Registration is on khronometraje.com.
The competition will provide a virtual certificate for runner and pet, a personalized virtual medal and access to a raffle of gifts from the sponsors. The event will last four hours.
