Merida, Yucatan — A free concert with an eclectic program ranging from ABBA and swing to the “Pink Panther” theme is coming 8 p.m Wednesday, Aug. 21 at the Teatro José Peón Contreras.
The presentation by the Banda Sinfónica de Yucatán “Luis Luna Guarneros” begins at Hogwarts with highlights from the “Harry Potter” saga, by John Williams.
Subsequently, attendees will be transported to the deepest seas when they hear “The Curse of the Black Pearl” by Klaus Badelt, which is part of the soundtrack of the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
“Queen in Concert,” with arrangements by Jay Bocook, will invoke memories of Freddie Mercury
Then, with “ABBA Forever” the Swedish group will be remembered with “Mamma Mia” and “Super Trouper.”
A “Glenn Miller Medley” that includes “In the Mood” will transport the audience to the age of swing music.
The “Pink Panther” theme, Henry Mancini’s contribution to the famous 1963 film, will also be performed.
That will be followed by a tribute to Mexican guitarist Carlos Santana with arrangements by Giancarlo Gazzani. Then, the Puerto Rican classic “El Cumbanchero” will cheer the public and, finally, “Hot-Trop” by Bulgarian composer Atanas Boyadjiev.
Seating is limited, so attendees are urged to arrive early.
