The old Siderúrgica de Yucatán (Yucatan Steel) factory site appears little changed since an ambitious mixed-use complex was announced over a year ago.
But the developer yesterday told Yucatán Expat Life that Via Montejo‘s residential and office towers and high-end shopping center are still coming.
“The project is running on schedule,” said project manager Alberto Miranda. “Our first milestones are due August 2017 and considering the MIA (environmental authorization) was released last week, I’d say the progress on site is quite satisfactory.”
Palacio de Hierro, a luxury department store based in Mexico City, will anchor a five-story shopping plaza that will also contain open-air restaurants, Cinepolis VIP cinemas and a Calvin Klein boutique, according to Diario de Yucatán. A hotel, medical center, offices, parks and even artificial lakes are advertised.
But for now, to anyone passing by, the factory parcel along the Merida-Progreso road would appear silent, and local media this week was speculating on the project’s future.
Construction of seven 12-floor corporate office buildings was to begin July 16, to be completed in January 2017, Diario de Yucatán reported back in July. The rest of the project is to unfold over a 10-year span.
The developer, Inmobilia, also built Country Towers, Yucatan Country Club and the Jaguar golf course, among dozens of other projects across the country.
Recently, Inmobilia announced a new Yucatán Country Club residential development called Serena, consisting of 53 villas and 86 townhouses, to be built with a 430-million-peso investment.
