Merida, Yucatan — A PRI deputy and seven employees in the legislative office building were suspected of being infected by COVID-19 while three employees of Yucatan’s Congress tested positive for the virus.
Both the legislative and judicial branch of the state government will work on a minimal schedule next week as a result.
In an impromptu press conference, Felipe Cervera Hernández, a PRI deputy and president of the Governing Board of Congress, said that a close relative of his colleague, Enrique Castillo Ruz, 50, tested positive for coronavirus. Presumably because he is exhibiting symptoms consistent with the illness, Castillo Ruz was declared likely to have contracted the virus as well, Cervera Hernández said.
Workers who have come in contact with Castillo Ruz were asked not to report to work and to stay at home under quarantine.
