9 die from bootleg liquor while under Yucatan dry law

Acanceh IMSS Rural Hospital No. 59

Eleven people were sickened, nine of whom died, from drinking bootleg alcohol during a COVID-19 contingency that bans the sale of beer, wine and liquor.

The deaths occurred at Acanceh IMSS Rural Hospital No. 59.

The others were transferred to a state hospital in Merida or to another IMSS regional hospital.

The adulterated alcohol was manufactured by a local man who works as an electrician. He is among those hospitalized in serious condition.

The IMSS urged the population not to consume drinks of dubious origin and to respect the official provisions of the State of Yucatan as the Law.
