Another two died and 36 new patients were registered Saturday as the number of both coronavirus cases and deaths in Yucatan accelerated again.
The day’s fatalities bring to 25 the state’s death toll since the first COVID-19 fatalities not even a month ago, on April 3. Six died in the previous two days alone.
The spike in new cases, up 123 since the week began, could be due to more rapid testing of a backlog of possible cases that are awaiting analysis.
In all, 309 people have tested positive for coronavirus and another 89 are still under review; 162 have recovered, up 25 from the day before.
The latest to perish were an 85-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both with a history of diabetes, state health authorities announced at a briefing on social media.
All the deceased’s contacts are in isolation and will be strictly monitored by health sector personnel, authorities said.
The stricken range in age from 3 to 94 years.
Of the positive cases, 162 have recovered, 77 patients are stable and isolated at home, and 45 still require hospitalization, five more than the day before.
