For the fourth day in a row, 16 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours were reported by Yucatan health authorities. Another 191 new cases were reported, the highest one-day number in weeks.
Yucatan’s coronavirus fatalities now total 626 since the first confirmed case was announced March 13 and the first two deaths reported April 3.
Of the 6,117 accumulated COVID-19 cases in Yucatan, nearly 83% have recovered, a new high.
Of the new cases, 89 were in Mérida; 23 in Valladolid; 12 in Ticul, eight in Umán; seven in Kanasín, six in Tekax, four in Temozón and Tizimín, three in Progreso, and three from outside Yucatan or Mexico; two in Chicxulub Pueblo, Cuncunul, Hunucmá, Izamal, Motul, Tecoh and Tinum; and one each in Cansahcab, Celestún, Chapab, Chemax, Chocholá, Conkal, Cuzamá, Espita, Halachó, Hoctún, Kantunil, Kaua, Maxcanú, Muna, Samahil, Sudzal, Teabo and Tixkokob.
Current patients include 639 in stable condition and recovering at home under quarantine, and 357 in the hospital, nine fewer than the day before.
A 35-year-old Merida man, whose obesity was a complicating factor, was the youngest to die. An 87-year-od Kinchil man, with no preexisting conditions, was the oldest. The average age of the deceased was 63. Eleven of the 16 were men.
