For all the history on the peninsula, there’s a hip flip side that promoters will emphasize next week.
A sleek, high-tech pavilion is Yucatán’s contribution to the 41st edition of the massive Mexico Tourism Fair in Guadalajara. The space will be unveiled Monday and remain in operation for three days.
The pavilion is designed to weave the region’s potent mix of ancient culture with its upscale 21st-century attractions.
The Yucatecan delegation is made up of 97 people representing 24 hotels of various categories, eight tour operators, and trade groups representing the state, and the municipalities of Mérida, Izamal and Valladolid.
In addition, samples of Yucatán’s traditional cuisine will be handed out. Cooks from Ticul, Tizimin and Sanahcat are being coordinated by Manjar Blanco’s Miriam Peraza and Chef Luis Barocio of Nectar.
The tourism fair is held this year at Expo Guadalajara, Mexico’s largest convention center, boasting over a million square feet of space. It is the first conference hall in Latin America with a capacity for up to 50,000 people.
