Mérida, Yucatán — The much vaunted National Ballet of Cuba brings their distinct style of dance to Yucatán during the fall season of the annual Cultural Festival of the Arts. They perform Sept. 22-23 at the Teatro Armando Manzanero.
The company will perform “Coppelia,” with the leading roles played by Viengsay Valdes, Amaya Rodríguez, Víctor Estévez, Adrian Molina, Felix Rodriguez and Ernesto Diaz, according to Prensa Latina.
Coppelia, one of the most famous works of classical ballet, has been integrated into the company’s repertoire by the company’s founder Alicia Alonso, now 91, is still at the helm.
The fall festival begins Sept. 20, ushering in 58 musical events and 11 dance performances through Oct. 12. It opens with a ceremony held in the Teatro Jose Peon Contreras with a concert by Imelda Miller, Maria Medina and Sergio Esquivel. Yucatecan artists will be accompanied by the Orquesta Tipica Yukalpetén.
