Taste of Mérida returns to support Fundación BAI’s critical mission

Hacienda Santa Cruz

For Fundación BAI, in its 11th year a key social player in the city, a lot rides on its annual Taste of Mérida fundraiser.

The nonprofit organization works full-time with programs to prevent teenage pregnancies, the spread of HIV and other STIs in the Yucatán.

Fundación BAI’s peer-to-peer education program empowers Yucatán’s youth to live healthy lives. Their permanent HIV testing system links to a program that counsels people who test positive.

Some people are still surprised to learn that AIDS still kills, even with all the medical advances we learn about.

Because they rely solely on private donations, BAI pours a tremendous amount of energy into its fundraisers: the Showcase of Homes and the quickly approaching Taste of Mérida on March 21.

This year’s Taste mixes things up a bit. It will be outside the Centro, at Hacienda Santa Cruz.

Signature dishes paired with wine will be served by chefs from five great restaurants: Ku’uk, the Hyatt Regency, Hermana República, Apoala and Catrín, the latter being the newcomer to the scene.

The event is almost sold out, so anyone wishing to attend shouldn’t procrastinate getting tickets, said Dr. Carlos Cabrera, Fundación BAI’s executive director.

Yucatán Expat Life is proud to be a platinum sponsor of Taste of Mérida.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the tasting starts at 7 on Wednesday, March 21. No tickets are available at the door. Call Holly, 999-351-5780; Tracy, 999-128-1238; or email info@fundacionbai.mx
