In Yucatán, more than eight out of 10 people living in urban areas reported they are happy overall, revealed a new survey from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
On a scale of 0 to 10, Yucatecans scored an average of 9.1 for “feeling that what one does is worth it”, 9.0 with “feeling lucky,” 8.9 “feeling that things turn out right or wrong depends on oneself” and 9.0 on “feeling that you have a mission in life.”
The above is located in the category of “eudemony,” a classic Greek word commonly translated as “happiness” and indicating a fullness of being.
The data are part of the results of the Self-Reported Wellness Modules (Biare) accompanying the survey of the National Consumer Confidence Survey (ENCO) during the first month of each quarter, since July 2013.
Recent national data show that, on a scale of 0 to 10, the average life satisfaction reported by the urban adult population in July 2016 is 8.1; While in July 2015, the average satisfaction with life reached a value of 8.0.
These perceptions comprise three aspects:
- Satisfaction with life in general and with specific aspects of it, called domains of satisfaction.
- Psychic strength and sense of life, that is, statements related to the concept of eudemonia.
- Affective balance, which explores the prevalence, at a specific time, of positive or negative mood states in the population under study.
According to the report, at national level compared to July of the previous year, the satisfaction averages were higher in seven specific areas:
- Personal relationships
- Activity or occupation
- Living place
- Health condition
- Prospects for the future
- Standard of living
- Free time
Aspects related to achievements in life and neighborhood remain unchanged, while impressions of overall security have regressed.
