Samsung’s new virtual reality gear will be helping promote the Yucatán. And VR fans all over the world will likely get their first introduction to the peninsula’s history and culture through this still-new technology.

The company will produce 360-degree virtual reality content relating to the Yucatán Peninsula’s tourist sites, including the Chichén Itzá archaeological site, and famous Mexican cuisine.

Samsung Electronics Co. signed a business pact with the tourism board of Yucatán state to implement this project, which will utilize the South Korean electronics giant’s virtual reality technologies to help develop the Mexican state’s tourism industry, the Mexican unit of Samsung said Monday.

This is the first time the Yucatán state government will use VR technologies to promote the tourism of the region, home to the Mayan civilization.

Under the pact, Samsung plans to link the tourism project to Samsung Gear VR, its virtual reality headset.
