Mérida, Yucatán — Peek Park was officially inaugurated yesterday, opening a free interactive fun zone for dogs at the Paseo Verde Linear Park.

For pets that have their papers, and are accompanied by their people, Peek (Mayan for “dog”) Park has pet games, dog-centered drinking fountains, wading pools, veterinary care and child care. It is divided into zones for small and large dogs, and is fully enclosed.

The park, the first of its kind in southeastern Mexico, complements the rest of the linear park, which has walking trails and is the center of activities for families.

Admission is free, but a quarterly fee is charged for a vets’ exam and temperament test. No more than two dogs per owner are allowed at once. And there are lots more regulations.

The park is west of the Centro, on Calle 28 between 7th and 9th in Col. Juan Pablo II.
