Mérida, Yucatán —  A troupe of mimes called Centinelas Urbanos, or City Sentinels, has returned to the Centro.

Their mission is to promote respect for pedestrians and other road rules.

Centinelas Urbanos is a city program that has earned praise on social media for its novelty.

This program began in July of last year with 28 young, theatrical men and women. Through traditional pantomime, they help citizens cross the street and alert drivers to slow down and mind the cross walks.

Brigades of mimes mobilized around the Plaza Grande, handing out flyers that encourage bicycle use, respect for the elderly and care for nature.

They expect to fan out across the city, promoting good values at the BiciRuta and at other parks where citizens congregate.
