American Airlines’ new Miami-Mérida route is coming earlier than expected.
Flights will begin Friday, Oct. 28, a week sooner than originally announced.
Additionally, Canada-Mérida holiday-season flights will be added in November, the state tourism director announced without providing further details.
Round-trip tickets will cost about $380 USD, said Saúl Ancona Salazar, head of the ministry of tourism promotion. He said in a press release that American Airlines has indicated strong interested in the Yucatecan market.
The route will operate daily, except Tuesdays and Wednesdays, complementing their Dallas-Mérida flights, which began in March.
Not only do U.S. and Canadian passengers heading south take advantage of these flights, but well-heeled Meridanos often enjoy shopping sprees in Florida and Texas
Mérida’s international airport has been steadily adding to its roster of direct connections to the U.S. and Canada: Houston, Dallas and Toronto also fly directly to Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport.
American’s route will be operated by Republic Airways with an Embraer 175 aircraft.
