Mérida, Yucatán — With the participation of 150 restaurants, Merida Restaurant Week will affirm the recent reader poll that called the city Mexico’s Top Gastronomic Destination.
Restaurant Chamber President Carlos Campos Achach said at a press conference that in only its second year, Mérida Restaurant Week is already considered one of the biggest gastronomic events in the city. Mérida’s event has also caught the attention of the trade group’s peers in other cities across Mexico, he said.
Restaurant Week 2017 is March 13-19, and a diverse array of eateries are offering 109-peso dinners — or about US$5.50 — across seven days. Among them, the participating restaurants specialize in Italian, Japanese, Lebanese, American, German, Mexican, Yucatecan and Chinese cuisine.
For example, Amuza at the Hyatt is offering a three-course meal of empanadas, brisket and ice cream for 109 pesos. Trattoria la Pasta on the Paseo de Montejo, for the same price, has three courses: Bruschetta, spaghetti Bolognese or four-cheese penne, and panna cotta for dessert.
Last year, the initial Restaurant Week saw 600,000 diners spent $60 million pesos with the promotion, which has also been held in other cities around the world, from New York to Shanghai.
This year a mobile app — available on Google Play and the Apple App Store — with a list of restaurants, maps and menus.
