Flutist LeeAnne Thompson has come from her Dallas home to be the guest soloist in Sunday’s “Tribute to the Flute” with the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra.
For her performance, Thompson has chosen the Concerto for Flute, H. 425 by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, whose classical style contrasts with the baroque music of his father, the great Johann Sebastian Bach.
The sublime Symphony No. 4, one of Johannes Brahms’ last symphonies, is performed in the second half of Sunday’s program.
“The concert will be something I’ll always remember,” Thompson told Diario de Yucatán. This is her first visit to Mérida.
Thompson is principal flute at the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra in Dallas, a position she has held since 2003. Dallas is where she met Lomónaco and agreed to a musician exchange with the OSY.
“The Yucatan Symphony Orchestra is very vibrant, and for me it’s special to be able to play with it because it will help me enrich my curriculum,” says Thompson.
