Mérida, Yucatán — The Recycled Percussion band, which has been a Las Vegas mainstay for seven years, will play three concerts in Mérida under the American Capital of Culture program.
The “junk rock” group plays June 16, 17 and 18 at the Rogers Hall sports complex on the Periferíco. The complex has a capacity of 3,000 spectators, so officials apparently believe that the show has the potential to attract an audience of 9,000.
This unique group of percussionists first achieved fame in 2009 on the television show “America’s Got Talent.” They have had steady Las Vegas gigs ever since, and have hosted more than 4,000 shows and 400 corporate events in more than 15 countries.
But they had humble beginnings, starting with a mid-1990s high school talent contest in New Hampshire.
“This small-town band has built their show into one of the more powerful live performances in entertainment,” according to their own publicity. “During every show, the band mixes their gritty assault on buckets, power tools or anything else they can get their sticks on with a sense of humor and gravity-defying athleticism.”
The concerts are free, but tickets are required, which can be requested at www.capitaldelacultura.com, at the Centro Cultural Dante, Segrafredos Galerías, the Teatro Fantasio and Rockmannía Altabrisa.
Getting there
Free ADO buses will depart the Plaza Grande two hours before each presentation.
The first performance — Friday, June 16 — is scheduled at 9 p.m., so the buses will leave at 7. On Saturday and Sunday the performances will be at 8 p.m., so buses will leave at 6.
At the end of the concerts, ADO will take the public back to the Plaza Grande.
