Mérida, Yucatán — The way that water flows, moves and responds to stimuli like light and shadow inspired Markéta Loman Vogelová’s first solo show in Mérida, opening 7 p.m. Friday at Galería La Eskalera.

“The Voice of Water” follows earlier watercolors and oils inspired by nature — desert dunes and rocks. Now, the Prague native, who has lived in Yucatán four years, is inspired by the region’s cenotes.

The 36 works are divided between figurative and abstract, but all exploring the theme of water’s power to calm and soothe.

“The Voice of Water” will be on view for three weeks, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The gallery is on Calle 70 in the Centro’s Santiago neighborhood, between 57 and 59.
