Mérida Yucatán — A canopy of tiny lights has brought a soft, golden glow to a popular passageway across from the Plaza Grande.

The Paseo Magico was inaugurated Sunday in the Pasaje de la Revolución, the stretch between the Cathedral and the Macay museum.

The custom-designed display has created the illusion of a floating multimedia tunnel. It includes more than 45,000 LED lights, combining warm and cold colors to generate the effect of a starry sky. Traditional Christmas music is synchronized with the light show.

The show starts daily at 7:30 p.m. through the holiday season.

Behind the magic is a 90-meter-long metal structure consisting of 18 modules, each 14 meters high.

Before the opening of this new show, Mayor Mauricio Vila Dosal led the lighting of the Christmas tree and the new Christmas lighting in San Antonio Xluch in the city’s south. Residents there had never been treated to a municipal holiday display before now.

Five lucky residents there also won tablets, paid for by the city, and were entertained by Franky the Clown.
