Mérida, Yucatán — American Airlines begins its direct connection to Miami today, yet another option for U.S. travelers.
The airline will be the second carrier connecting Mérida to Miami, from which travelers can connect to more than 130 U.S. and international markets in the Caribbean, Central America, South America and Europe.
Flights will take off Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and daily from Dec. 20-Jan. 4, anticipating high holiday-season demand.
With this, the Manuel Crescencio Rejon International Airport will boast eight international flights and 158 domestic flights, with an average of more than 20,000 seats available per week.
More regional flights to destinations such as Tabasco, Veracruz, Monterrey, Guadalajara and — of course — Mexico City were also recorded.
Other airlines already operating include WestJet Toronto, Blue Panorama of Rome, Aerogaviota and Cubana of Cuba and Tropic Air of Belize.

American Airlines initiated operations in Yucatán last March, connecting the Mérida airport with Dallas-Fort Worth.
Between private and commercial flights, more than 116 daily operations are performed on the Mérida runway, 10 more than last year.
