Mérida, Yucatán — Alcohol sales in Mérida and Progreso will be allowed an extra three hours for the Easter Sunday holiday.
Liquor stores will remain open until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 16, said the local chapter of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism after receiving the authorization of the state Ministry of Health.
The business group arranged for the longer hours to accommodate increased demands on a day when many households are enjoying time with friends and family. Authorities acquiesce similarly during the Christmas holidays.
Normal Sunday hours resume the following week, on April 23.
